Do you need to be flexible to do all the kicks?
No. There are advantages to having great flexibility but people with poor flexibility have progressed well in both the sport and traditional forms of Karate. Also, Karate means Empty Hand implying Defense without weapons. Karate makes full use of kicks, punches, throws, take downs, locks, and even has some submissions.
Is Karate expensive?
No. Actually, when compared to sports like hockey, skating, dance, and even running, equipment costs are relatively inexpensive. Also, Karate training is all year round in a controlled safe environment.

What should I look for in a good Karate club?
The needs for children are different that the needs for adults. It used to be a simple answer. Today however, programs vary for each age group and for each purpose. NOX has several quality programs each with its own distinct goals. On a basic level however, potential students should consider the following.
Instructors of Traditional Programs should have Japan certification. Instructors of Sport Programs should be recognized by the Provincial Sport Organization.Instructors of Children's Programs should have a minimum of NCCP Level A.Dojo's should be clean and have safety protocols.Don't be fooled by BIG spaces as being the only reason to join. High Ranks and Champion athletes make great practitioners but don't always make great instructors.Most importantly, take or watch a class and see if the students and instructors care for each others safety.
